The trans - Trường Sơn route, otherwise known as the Route 559 or Hồ Chí Minh Trail, was a strategic line of supply from the North to the South of Việt Nam during the resistance of the Vietnamese people for the liberation of the South from US military intervention and for national unification ( 1954 - 1975 ).... The Author of this book, lieutenant Đồng Sĩ Nguyên, was assigned in 1966 to be the Commander of Group 559. He linked his life to the route up to 1975 when the war ended. So, what he has recounted in this book is a vivid testimony of a direct participant in the events associated with this legendary route. Today, the route has become the broad asphalted national road 1B designed for peace, development and tourism.
